Final exam
The prerequisite for acquiring the "Sonography SGUM Module Musculoskeletal System" certificate of proficiency (FA) is successfully passing the final examination. The provisions for exam admission and conduct are based on the SIWF "Sonography SGUM" skills program of the Swiss Society for Ultrasound in Medicine dated 1.1.2020.
The final examination can be taken at the earliest two years after attending the basic course and not at the same time as the final course.
The Board of Directors determines who will chair the examination.
The time, place and the examiners and persons involved shall be determined by the examination chairpersons or the responsible members of the board.
At the examination, one examiner will conduct the examination; in addition, the assessment will be carried out by two further co-examiners.
The exam can be taken in German, French or English.
Registration for the final examination
Please note the course requirements: All of them must be fulfilled for registration to be possible.
Examination procedure
A complete shoulder sonography as well as the sonography of an additional joint or soft tissue region must be demonstrated on a patient.
The candidate must correctly and completely perform the complete examination procedure of a shoulder (including correct patient position), correctly name the anatomy and pathological findings, and also mention which findings to pay attention to. The examiners and co-examiners may ask additional questions (e.g. on examination technique, assessment, equipment setting, basics of sonography), which must be answered correctly. The shoulder examination must be completed within 25 minutes, this includes correctly describing the pathological changes and stating the resulting diagnosis.
The second joint or soft tissue region is chosen at random. This examination must also be performed as described above and completed after an additional 15 minutes with correct description of pathologic changes and naming the resulting diagnosis.
A formalized log is kept at the exam, noting correct and incorrect examination techniques and answers. The protocol is signed by all examiners.
If the candidate passes the examination, he/she receives a provisional examination confirmation signed by the examiners, which should be sent directly to the SGUM in order to receive the definitive certificate of competence from the SGUM.
Failure to pass a final examination
In the event of failure of the final examination, the examiners involved will determine the most appropriate further procedure. The examiners can impose conditions up to the time of the examination repetition (e.g. attendance of specific ultrasound courses, additional supervision, earliest date for the next examination).
In the case of a repeat examination, an examiner not previously involved will administer the examination.
Appeal option
In case of disagreement about the outcome of the final examination, the board of the SGUM Musculoskeletal Section is the first instance of appeal.
Fee
You will receive the payment information with the confirmation email when you register for the exam. In case of cancellation less than 4 weeks before the examination date, the entire examination fee will be charged, a refund or postponement of the examination date is not possible.
